Goa (pronounced /ˈɡoʊ.ə/ ( listen); Konkani: गोंय pronounced [ɡɔ̃j]) is India's smallest state in terms of area and the fourth smallest in terms of population. Located on the west coast of India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Panaji is the state's capital. Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the influence of Portuguese culture. The Portuguese first landed in Goa as merchants, in the early 16th century, and conquered it soon thereafter. The Portuguese overseas territory existed for about 450 years, until it was annexed by India in 1961. Renowned for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of international and domestic tourists each year. Hi there well i suppose u have a mish mash of answers on here,but seriously it depends on what ur looking for,we personally stay in 2* bed an breakfast in calangute wich is lively and busy but central as its in the middle of baga on 1 side and cadolim on the other side,candolim is cleaner and a bit more quiet but for 100 rupees u can go 2 calangute for the evening,i find baga a bit 2 much very packed and full of water sports so more groups of young indians and tourists...we only ever pay around 680 GBP for 4 weeks b/b in 2* we always stay in different ones every year we go end of Jan till end of feb but november is ok to go probably not as packed so would be ideal really,there is plenty to do for kids if ur willing to do the day trips etc..
